In February 2011, Queen Street Studio will bring acclaimed New York-based artists Barney O’Hanlon (SITI Company) and Laura Sheedy (The PIT) to Sydney to present TOOLKIT Performance Lab 2011; a two week physical training intensive for performance based artists, theatre directors and dance makers.

Focusing on the Viewpoints training, developed by SITI Company Founder and Artistic Director Anne Bogart, TOOLKIT Performance Lab 2011 will focus on the Viewpoints, dynamic staging, movement training and Composition.

SITI, founded in 1992 by Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki, aims to redefine and revitalise contemporary theatre with an emphasis on international cultural exchange and collaboration.

Barney O’Hanlon and Laura Sheedy will fly to Sydney to lead the two week TOOLKIT intensive especially for Queen Street Studio. It will allow participants to work spontaneously and intuitively and equip artists with the skills to generate dynamic work quickly.

Queen Street Studio is a member-based, non-profit arts organisation that provides subsidised studio space, professional development programs and free visual arts and performing arts residencies for artists working in inner city Sydney.

Barney O’Hanlon has been collaborating with Anne Bogart since 1986 and has been a SITI Company member since 1994. His CV boasts a dynamic international career as an actor, dancer and choreographer and he currently teaches at New York University, Columbia University and numerous arts and education institutions around the globe. In July this year, O’Hanlon travelled with Bogart to lead SITI intensives in Suzuki, Viewpoints and Composition in Los Angeles.

Performer, director, teacher and producer Laura Sheedy is based in Melbourne and New York and has trained with the SITI Company since 2000. She has worked with Circus Oz, La Clique, The Great Gondos, The Candy Butchers, the Wau Wau Sisters, A Scam and A Strongman, The Shitt Family Puppet Show and Dead Horse Productions. Most recently, Sheedy led a highly successful Viewpoints Masterclass at the Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne.
